How to move around a horse

3

Horses are VERY big animals. Few of them are deliberately mean, but a sorry horse doesn’t make up for squished toes! Knowing how to move safely around a horse is a good way to protect those little piggies. This video walks you through the basics of moving around on the ground with a horse, as well as showing how to properly ask a horse to move for you.

Ali- What would you do if you were stood on the right of the horse and you need him to turn right?

There are two responses–the CORRECT answer and the expedient answer. The correct, according-to-Pony-Club-rules way to do it is to turn your horse 270 degree to the left. Essentially, three left hand turns to get to what would have been one right hand turn. The cheating way is that you pull your horse around to the right, toward you. Now, in doing that, you’re inviting your horse into your space, so ONLY do this with a well-behaved horse, and if you’re very aware of where your toes are ;p
