Clean as a…bridle?
Tack is just a fancy word for the equipment you put on a horse. And you can imagine that anything you strap onto a sweating, dusty horse is soon going to need to be cleaned! Cleaning your tack does three important things:
1. keeps you looking good!
2. keeps your tack strong and supple.
3. keeps your tack from rubbing your horse’s sensitive skin.
Dirt and sweat can make leather crack and break, not to mention giving your poor pony sores. So don’t be afraid to buckle down and scrub up. To help you out, here’s a two-part video of how to clean your tack. Let me know if you’ve got any questions. Happy sudsing!

Do you really put the bit in the dishwasher? I would never have thought. Thanks for the info. Great lesson.
Haha, yep you can put a bit in the dishwasher! You may want to check with the other people in your house before you do, though…

Thanks for your comment! I’ve got a blog that runs through my costs for Noah (it’s under “buying a horse”) but a video would be a great idea! I don’t have my video camera at the moment, but as soon as I do, I’ll make it ;) In the mean time, let me know what you think of the blog and please, please please ask me any questions you have! You can always send me an email (under “Contact Ali”) and I’m much better at answering those.
Thanks again for watching my videos, it means so much to me!

hi Ali
I was just wondering how often you have to clean a tack?
I try to clean my tack thoroughly once a month (but often I’m bad about that…!). You should also give your tack a good wipe-down after every ride just to get the sweat off.

Hi Ali,
I was wondering why you dont use a half-back pad? My friend says that you have to, but i doubt it because i dont use one!
I actually have no idea what a half-back pad is… can you explain it?
